BLACK BOLD BROTHERS
The success of the Black Bold & Beautiful Women’s Luncheon events founded by Aboriginal Elder Aunty Sandra King OAM led to discussions with her male members of family and friends. We now would like to introduce you to two new events - the inaugural Black Bold Brothers Men’s Gathering and the Black Bold Brothers Fashion Parade events to be held on Friday 7th June at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
BLACK BOLD BROTHERS MEN'S GATHERING ONLY
Doors Open - 11.00am
Black Bold Brothers is a new initiative that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to come together to network, share stories, and discuss men’s business; followed by a Black Bold Brother Fashion Parade featuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designs and models.
Black Bold Brothers will engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men in a culturally competent program where First Nation guest speakers will engage in important topics and with participants, develop strategies to build their resilience, improve well-being and change the narrative of our men. This is an opportunity for our men and youth to connect in a culturally respectful and authentic way.
The driving force of the Black Bold Brothers event are leading First Nations businessmen, professionals, and Elders: Michael Connolly, Cameron Callope, Mark Yettica-Paulson, Barry Lea, Phillip Sariago and Will Muckan.
The Gathering Forum will be hosted by acclaimed actor/comedian Steven Oliver, and also features a host of esteemed guest speakers including Dr Mick Adams, Kenny Bedford, Shannon Ruska, Bob Smith, Will Trevethan and Professor James Ward.
Gathering topics:
Black 2 Basics – Our history, lore and culture are the basics of who we are and how we manage the challenges of today.
Boys 2 Men – Learning from the past can strengthen our identity and spirituality towards a positive future.
Culture 2 Career – Protecting our cultural safety, identity, knowledge, integrity, and our data sovereignty while balancing racism, and intersectionality; plus - how can a First Nations business providing Cultural Services survive.
Brother 2 Brother – The challenges of changing the narrative of our men, our communities, and our history, is to support, inform, inspire, and empower our community and the broader community towards a united future.
In the evening, all are welcome to join us for a night of style and individuality, witness the latest trends in First Nations fashions and accessories modelled by our men in a display of boldness and creativity. The Black Bold Brothers Men's Fashion Parade promises to be a night to remember, filled with music and fabulous fashion.
